New Government course launched to remove barriers to regional culture

Through this training programme, the ICIB will offer a wide range of inclusive resources for the six artistic disciplines covered by its scope of action

In addition, all the materials will later be summarised in a free guide on the application of universal design in the creative sector

With the goal of building a more accessible creative ecosystem, the Balearic Islands Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIB) launched on Monday a new training programme aimed at professionals in the cultural sector. This free initiative, held at the Ca n’Oleo facilities, explores a range of tools for creating fully inclusive experiences. Over the course of up to four sessions, it will provide tailored solutions for each of the six disciplines that define the ICIB’s framework of action: performing arts, visual arts, audiovisual, podcasting, music, and the publishing sector.

Beyond engaging with an extensive conceptual background, the participants will discover specific measures for each of these disciplines. At the same time, they will analyse how to apply these strategies to both case studies and their own projects. This cross-disciplinary exercise will be led by filmmaker and researcher Miguel Ángel Font Bisier, a specialist in inclusion, and Vicente Alcoy Sapiña, a marketing and communication expert who will share his experience as a person with retinitis pigmentosa, a condition that affects vision.

“It is essential to understand inclusion measures so that everyone can actively participate in culture, whether through creation or as an audience,” stated Diana de la Cuadra, managing director of the ICIB. She also added that “this course is a great opportunity to remove the barriers that hinder access to regional culture.” Furthermore, in her words, “the guide that will result from this initiative will be a key tool for creators and producers in the Balearic Islands to incorporate accessibility at the core of their projects.”
