ICIB, which has financed three of the selected works within the event, will also accompany filmmakers from the archipelago as part of an official regional delegation
In addition, the islands will also be present at MAFIZ, the industry branch of this nationally significant film event
The Balearic Islands will once again play a leading role in one of the key events on the Spanish film calendar. With up to six different films, the regional audiovisual sector will enjoy a strong presence at the 29th edition of the renowned Málaga Film Festival. This major national event, scheduled from 6 to 15 March, will also feature broad participation from Balearic film professionals.
Among the selected works, the national premiere of “La Carn” stands out. This feature film, financed by the Balearic Islands Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIB) and directed by Mallorcan filmmaker Joan Porcel, will screen in the Official Zonazine Section, dedicated to experimental cinema. In addition, two works will compete in the Official Documentary Short Film Section: Javier Lerín’s “Los días azules”, produced by El Obrador de lo Real, and “El ressò de la mirada”, directed by Carles Bover.
In the Official Fiction Short Film Section, two more Balearic productions have been selected: “Instrucciones para cocinar un pollo bajo tierra”, directed by Menorcan filmmaker Olivia Declán; and “Angoixa”, another ICIB-funded work, co-directed by Daniel Ináñez and Andreu Fullana. In the non-competitive sections, the feature film “Mallorca Confidencial”, directed by David Ilundain and co-produced by Cinètica Produccions, will also be included in the Festival’s programme.
Furthermore, the Balearic audiovisual sector will also take part this year in a new edition of MAFIZ, the industry arm of the Festival. Through ICIB’s institutional support, filmmakers from the islands will benefit from backing to promote both their audiovisual projects and industry connections. In addition, the feature project “Sa filla bastarda”, also by Olivia Declán and again with ICIB participation, has been selected for the Málaga Festival Fund & Co Production Event.
