Project presentations took centre stage today during the third day of Conecta Magaluf Mallorca. An internationally renowned event which, once again, featured a strong regional presence in the penultimate day of the programme. On this occasion, through the seven Balearic productions that took part in the competitive section of the initiative.

The main protagonists of the day, in this regard, were “Mallorcan things to do”, “Nua” and “Habitación Cero”, which received a total of four different awards. The first, a comedy series by Bastera Films, won both the RTVE PLAY Award, endowed with €5,000 for the development of the project, and the Acorde Award, consisting of a music licensing package. The second, co-produced by Empàtic and Corte y confección de películas, received the Tríodos Bank Award, worth €3,000. And the third, a vertical series produced by Escaleta Audiovisual, won the New Art Award, endowed with €5,000 in post-production services.

In addition, within the section dedicated to films for platforms, the archipelago competed with four different films: “Adoptadas”, directed by Xiaomei Espiro; “Nana”, presented today by Luis Ortas and Marcos Callejo; “Rosa canina”, by Sofía Martell; and “Toro”, directed by fellow island filmmaker Toni Bestard.

“It is a source of pride to see projects from the Balearic Islands stand out at a globally significant meeting point such as this tenth edition of Conecta,” explained the managing director of the ICIB, Diana de la Cuadra. On the one hand, she pointed out, “because opportunities like this demonstrate the high level of our professionals.” And on the other, “because it is in markets such as Conecta where Balearic audiovisual productions can forge the right alliances to transcend the borders of the archipelago.”

The Balearic connection

Beyond the pitchings, the Institute of Cultural Industries of the Balearic Islands (ICIB) has brought together around fifty professionals from across the territory over the past few days in order to continue multiplying the industrial opportunities of the regional audiovisual sector. Following a talk on local potential alongside APAIB and The Base, the institution organised a professional lunch attended by numerous industry representatives.

Also noteworthy was the Balearic premiere of the film “Mallorca Confidencial”, attended by members of the film’s team. Equally significant was the presence of Miki Durán in a live workshop on creating vertical content using artificial intelligence, as well as Ferran Bex’s participation within the framework of the Focus Talent celebration.
