The Balearic Islands take centre stage at FITUR Screen through Conecta and “Lucía y el sexo”

Under the Government’s umbrella, this Wednesday saw the presentation of an audiovisual market with recognised international reach, which this year will be held in Magaluf

The event also highlighted the work of the Experiencies Programme, a project by the Spain Film Commission that proposes a new way of exploring Formentera through cinema

With the launch of the eighth edition of FITUR Screen, the Balearic Islands positioned themselves this Wednesday as one of the leading players on the opening day of the event. Within this space dedicated to the audiovisual sector, the autonomous region took centre stage today in two of the most significant initiatives of the programme. All of this took place under the auspices of the Illes Balears Film Commission, which was present at IFEMA Madrid as a key service of the Balearic Islands Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIB).

On the one hand, the archipelago played a fundamental role in the presentation of a new edition of Conecta. This international market, dedicated to fostering the industrial development of audiovisual creation, will celebrate its tenth anniversary in the coastal setting of Magaluf. From 25 to 28 May 2026, it will bring together in Calvià a wide range of specialised activities as well as more than 300 professionals from the sector, including numerous leading global players in the field.

The organisers of Conecta Magaluf–Mallorca, which this year will include the participation of the Government of the Balearic Islands, unveiled some details of its tenth edition earlier today. The presentation took place alongside a notable institutional representation from the Balearic Islands. The event was chaired by the Managing Director of ICIB, Diana de la Cuadra, and featured contributions from the Regional Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà; the Vice President of the Island Council of Mallorca, Antònia Roca; and the Mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual.

Jaume Bauzà used the occasion to point out that supporting Conecta “is a strategic decision that brings together the three fundamental pillars on which our government action is based: Culture, Tourism and Economy”. Diana de la Cuadra, acting as master of ceremonies, reinforced this commitment by stating that “through Conecta, we not only strengthen synergies between the Balearic industry and international activity, but we also break down the symbolic barrier of the Mediterranean Sea, which on the one hand is part of our identity, yet on the other has kept us on the periphery of the Spanish audiovisual sector”.

In addition, the autonomous region’s presence was also notable within the framework of the well-known Experiencies Programme. This initiative, led by the Spain Film Commission and funded by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism – State Secretariat for Tourism (SETUR), has counted on the collaboration of the Illes Balears Film Commission to promote the connection between the country’s cinematic heritage and new approaches to more sustainable and innovative tourism. In this context, the film “Lucía y el sexo”, directed by Julio Medem and released 25 years ago, has placed the island of Formentera at the heart of the initiative.

This Thursday at 1:00 pm, the national presentation of the Experiencias Programme will take place. Alongside a dedicated promotional space for the initiative, a roundtable discussion on sustainable tourism experiences will also be held, starting at 4:00 pm, once again with Diana de la Cuadra participating as one of the institutional representatives.
