The Government concludes the inclusive culture programme promoted by the ICIB

Pedro Vidal, Secretary for Culture and Sports, will close today the course together with Maria Castro, Director General for Dependency and Disability Care

The training programme, dedicated to the application of universal design across different creative disciplines, has brought together more than ten professionals from the sector

The facilities of Ca n’Oleo will host this Thursday the last of the four sessions devoted to inclusive culture. This free training initiative, promoted by the Balearic Islands Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIB), has highlighted the various accessibility measures available to bring artistic activity closer to all audiences across the territory. In doing so, it has also presented multiple solutions aimed at removing the different barriers that still exist between cultural creation and people with physical, sensory, cognitive or organic disabilities.

Since last Monday, more than ten professionals from the sector have been able to deepen their knowledge of inclusion strategies applicable to the different creative disciplines of the archipelago. Among other initiatives, the upcoming ICIB Cultural Accessibility Guide has also been presented, which will make a range of practical resources available to creative agents in the Balearic Islands. This Thursday, moreover, an institutional event will mark the conclusion of the programme.

In this regard, both the Secretary for Culture and Sports, Pedro Vidal, and the Director General for Dependency and Disability Care, María Castro, will attend the event at Ca n’Oleo. Both authorities have been actively involved in the design of this training programme. Pedro Vidal, for his part, wished to emphasise that “when we make it possible for everyone to take an active part in culture, either as creators or as audiences, we are strengthening our cultural democracy and building a richer, more diverse and fairer cultural fabric.” As a reflection shared with the participants of the course, it was also noted that “there is still a long way to go,” but that “initiatives like this one are helping to take the first steps towards a fully inclusive cultural landscape.”
