The Government sets the path towards a fully accessible cultural environment with the publication of the new ICIB guide

The document, available on the institution’s website, offers practical measures for the audiovisual sector, performing arts, visual arts, podcasts, music and the publishing sector

The initiative also includes a directory of organisations compiled in collaboration with the Ministry of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care

Coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and with the aim of fostering a more inclusive cultural landscape, the Balearic Islands Institute for Cultural Industries (ICIB) has published this Wednesday a new guide aimed at the many stakeholders within the sector. This free document, available through the organisation’s website, provides the key principles for achieving fully accessible cultural activity. And it does so by offering practical solutions tailored to each of the six disciplines covered by the institute’s remit.

This new document, developed jointly with Mi Cine Inclusivo, stems from one of the training programmes promoted by the ICIB itself. The guide also incorporates several proposals submitted by students who took part in that programme, which brought together professionals from the creative fields addressed in the publication. And all of this takes shape within an initiative that also includes an extensive directory of federations and organisations involved in implementing accessibility. This list has been compiled in collaboration with the Ministry of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care.

“The purpose of this guide is to provide useful resources so that creators from all disciplines can incorporate accessibility as a core value in their projects,” noted the ICIB’s managing director, Diana de la Cuadra. She also stressed that this represents “a first step towards ensuring that everyone can fully enjoy cultural activities in the Balearic Islands.”
