The ICIB launches a new call for grants to support the production and co-production of audiovisual projects

The institute presents a funding line with a total budget of up to 1 million euros

With the aim of strengthening the film and television industry in the archipelago, the Balearic Islands Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIB) —under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports— published this Thursday a new call for grants in support of the production and co-production of audiovisual projects. For the 2025 edition, this funding line will once again have a total budget of up to 1 million euros. In addition, and in consensus with the different professional associations in the sector, it will introduce a series of updates compared to last year’s guidelines.

As in the previous edition, this year’s call will be structured around four different categories: category A, dedicated to feature films of fiction and animation; category B, focused on documentary projects; category C, specific to short films; and category D, which covers both miniseries and web series. In all cases, eligible expenses will include scenography, the rental of audiovisual equipment, or the development of a sustainability plan. Likewise, the hiring of the technical and artistic personnel required for the development of the projects will also be eligible.

From a technical standpoint, and along with the creation of a list of festivals specifically designed for each category, the maximum amount that fiction and animation feature films may receive has also been updated. While last year this figure was capped at 160,000 euros, the 2025 call raises the ceiling to 175,000. A decision with which “quality will be prioritized over quantity, with fewer projects benefitting, but with stronger funding,” noted the managing director of the institution, Diana de la Cuadra.

It is worth mentioning that the deadline for submitting applications is twenty-five working days from the day after the call is published in the BOIB. Likewise, applicants may submit up to a maximum of three applications, regardless of the category in which their projects are entered.
