The ICIB leads the new industrial deployment of the Balearic audiovisual sector at the Málaga Festival

In addition to offering a space for producers from the region, the institution supported both the multiple screenings bearing the islands’ seal and the various events of MAFIZ

Likewise, all the film commissions of the archipelago have joined forces to work together to consolidate the cinematic potential of the Balearic Islands

The Institute of Cultural Industries of the Balearic Islands (ICIB) concludes this Thursday its institutional participation in one of the most prominent artistic events of the region. Accompanied by more than 20 professionals who travelled to Andalusia for the occasion, the organisation has led a highly productive Balearic presence during the 29th edition of the Málaga Festival. Once again, the event has positioned the archipelago as one of the areas with the greatest potential in Spanish film production.

Alongside the recognition of Mallorcan actress Rossy de Palma, who received the Málaga Award for her professional career, the Balearic Islands were present with six films bearing the islands’ seal across the different sections of the festival: "La Carn", "Angoixa", "El ressò de la mirada", "Los días azules", "Mallorca Confidencial", and "Instrucciones para cocinar un pollo bajo tierra". The first three were developed thanks to funding from the ICIB.

Furthermore, regarding the industrial side of the festival, the archipelago took part in several key events for the growth of the sector in the Balearic Islands. On the one hand, through the Illes Balears Film Commission, which joined forces with the three island film commissions in order to strengthen this support network for the audiovisual industry. At the same time, the four services participated in a new general assembly of members of the Spain Film Commission, promoting Balearic cinema both nationally and internationally.

On the other hand, Balearic producers also played a leading role in multiple professional events, from Cristina Gómez’s participation in the presentation of the second national meeting of film festivals to Álvaro Iglesias’s talk on the role of service production in Spain. These milestones were complemented by the presence of the works "Les convulsions" and "La filla bastarda" in the market sections of the festival. In addition, professionals carried out a wide range of activities in the space that the ICIB made available to the sector.

“The combination of Balearic talent, institutional support and participation in top-level events is essential to showcase the great potential of our cinema,” stated Diana de la Cuadra, managing director of the ICIB. She emphasised that “occasions like this, where regional audiovisual production takes centre stage at one of Spain’s key cinematic events, demonstrate the remarkable artistic and industrial capacity of Balearic professionals.” She concluded by noting that “it is vital to continue strengthening support structures for the sector, with the aim of consolidating a high-quality audiovisual ecosystem in every respect. For example, through initiatives such as Conecta, which will be held in Magaluf next May.”
